Woman arrested after leaving store
A woman was arrested on a felony theft charge after being detained by Walmart security for leaving the Kahului store without paying for more than $1,000 in merchandise Saturday, police said.
Bail was set at $1,000 for Khadija Goz, 28, of Kahului on a second-degree theft charge. She also was arrested on two contempt-of-court warrants totaling $1,000.
Police said the shoplifting occurred at about 9 a.m. when a store loss-prevention officer reported seeing Goz placing DVDs and a camping backpack in a shopping cart and passing cash registers to leave the store. The value of the stolen items was $1,278.
Tracking program leads to charges
A tracking program led to a stolen cellphone and resulted in the arrest Saturday of a Kihei man on burglary and theft charges, police said.
Bail was set at $6,000 for Ronald Monroe, 36. He was charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft.
The burglary was reported at 5:18 a.m. Saturday when a man sleeping at his girlfriend's house in Spreckelsville awoke to see Monroe in the residence, police said. Monroe reportedly said he was looking for his girlfriend and took the man's cellphone before leaving.
A tracking device on the smartphone indicated that it was in Monroe's vehicle, which police got permission to search. The phone was recovered, police said.
Bank withdrawal suspect's bail set
Bail was set at $3,000 for a Makawao man who was arrested for allegedly making unauthorized withdrawals from the bank account of an acquaintance, police said.
Jon Hall, 36, was charged with theft of a credit card, second-degree theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
He turned himself in and was arrested Sunday after an all-points bulletin had been issued for him, police said.
On Feb. 21, the victim reported that money was missing from his checking account after 23 unauthorized automated teller machine withdrawals totaling $4,050, police said.
A Lahaina police officer recognized Hall from automated teller machine photos, and he was identified through a photo lineup, police said.
Hall also was arrested on contempt-of-court warrants totaling $2,500.
