1913 - Work has already begun on the road to Makawao and the grading as far as Makawao Church is nearly completed. The macadamizing will soon be started, and the new road will then be a great improvement over the old dirt one.

1938 - Prospective entrants in the 1938 Maui Soapbox Derby are meeting at the Maui Vocational School on Thursday to organize a Maui Soapbox Club under the leadership of Ernest L. Hood and Duncan Sinclair of the vocational school. Purpose of the club is to provide a means of helping boys to design their cars and to give them advice on proper methods of procedure.

1988 - As if it isn't difficult enough that Darby Gill's birthday run gets longer every year, the Ka Lima O Maui plant nursery director has added a twist to make this year's quest "joggle" the mind. On each of his last 13 birthdays, Gill has run a mile for each year he's been on this Earth to raise pledge money for charity. Gill plans to mark the grand occasion of his 40th birthday with a 40-mile run while juggling three balls.

2003 - On the day the Cameron Center celebrated its 30th anniversary, officials dedicated an unprecedented infant-and-toddler child-care facility on the property. Kahi Kamalii, "the place for children," is a $1 million facility that takes pride in being the first nonprofit infant-and-toddler child care center on Maui.
