The Lahainaluna water polo team lost its opening-round match to Roosevelt 13-5 on Tuesday in the Stanford Carr Development State Championship at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
The Lunas (5-4) led 2-0 after the first quarter before the Rough Riders (10-5) took over.
Hannah Yasuda scored five goals for Roosevelt, Brianne Tengan added four and Kauionalani Keola and Rachel Kamai each scored twice.
Lalelei Mataafa scored three goals and Bridget Joy added two for Lahainaluna.
The Lunas will play in a consolation match Thursday against Mililani, which lost to Iolani 12-2 on Tuesday.
Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin High School was seeded fourth and will open play in today's quarterfinals against Kapolei, which beat Moanalua 9-3 on Tuesday.
