Man injured in boat explosion

May 7, 2013
The Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) - A man is in serious condition with burns after a boat explosion in Honolulu's Ala Wai Harbor.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said officials were investigating the cause of Monday's explosion on a 43-foot sport yacht. He says it appeared that two men aboard were fueling up using containers of gasoline while the yacht was moored at a slip at the small-boat harbor.

Paramedics took a 58-year-old man to the burn center with second-degree burns. Seelig said the second man was not injured.

Seelig estimated about $100,000 in damage to the boat.
