HGEA Unit 13 rejects state’s contract offer

May 2, 2013
The Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) - Union members of a unit representing more than 8,000 professional and scientific Hawaii government employees have rejected a contract offer from the state.

The Hawaii Government Employees Association said Tuesday night that 55 percent voted to reject the two-year offer. The union previously said the offer didn't meet the negotiating team's priorities but leaders wanted to give Unit 13 members a chance to accept or reject it.

Terms included 4 percent salary increases and 60 percent employer contribution to health insurance premiums.

Both sides will proceed with arbitration.

A neutral arbitrator will be selected, and a hearing will be scheduled.
