The 16th annual Maui Earth Day Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Keopuolani Park Amphitheater in Kahului.
Tickets are $7, with children under 16 free.
The drug-and-alcohol-free event, located behind the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, will host about 40 environmental and social awareness organizations, providing information on environmental issues relevant to Maui.
Activities include pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, a farmers market and two stages of live music. About 50 vendors, 30 of them food, are expected.
Panel discussions on Maui environmental issues will begin at noon. Discussion topics include cane burning, agricultural sustainability, genetically modified foods and geo-engineering.
This year's event is expected to draw 2,000 attendees. Organization officials ask that people carpool and bring cups, plates and utensils, if possible.
