April 28-The Maui Youth Basketball League will accept applications for its summer league, for boys and girls ages 6-15, on a first-come, first-served basis until April 28. May 11, June 10-14-Temeka Johnson and Glory Johnson clinic. The Johnsons were with the WNBA's Tulsa Shock last season. They will offer instruction at a clinic at the outdoor courts at Maui High School in Kahului on May 11. A basketball camp for boys and girls 7-18 is scheduled for June 10-14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, at West Maui and Upcountry sites. The fee is $145 through May 15, and $195 from May 16 to June 10. Scholarships are available. In conjunction with that camp, boys and girls in high school can also register for continued instruction from 4 to 9 p.m. each day at Seabury Hall in Olinda for an additional $40. April 28-29-The Maui Stage Race is scheduled for April 28-29. On the first day, a time trial is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. and a criterium for 2 p.m., both in Kahului. On the second day, a 36-mile road race will begin at 6:30 a.m. in Keokea. The registration fees for adults are $35 for the time trial, $45 for the criterium and $70 for the road race, or $125 for all three. April 28-The Maui Junior Golf Association's benefit tournament is scheduled for April 28 at King Kamehameha Country Club in Wailuku. Check-in will begin at 6 a.m., and a shotgun start is scheduled for 7 a.m. The entry fee for the two-person scramble is $125 per player, which also pays for greens fees, refreshments, a luncheon and entry into contests and drawings. May 11-A U.S. Open local qualifier is scheduled for May 11 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club in Waikapu. Entry must be completed at usga.org/champs/apply by 11 a.m. on April 24. April 27 - The Butterfly Effect is sponsoring its seventh annual non-competitive ocean sports event for females on April 27. Events, which start at 9 a.m., are stand-up paddle, kayak and canoe with the course running from Baldwin Beach to Kanaha Beach.
The entry fee is $40. There will be activities for participants, including a community beach clean-up and yoga warm-up. The event also will include guest speakers, professional athletes, music and a Butterfly Beach Party at Kanaha. Contact: Tatiana Howard at 283-0864.
April 21 - The Olukai Ho'olaule'a Fun Paddle will be held April 21 with the three-mile course running from the Paia Youth Cultural Center to Kanaha Beach Park. June 19-22-The Maui No Ka Oi Soccer Tournament will be held June 19-22 at the Eddie Tam Fields in Makawao. The registration deadline is June 1.
