Gene Garvida Soliven, 61, of Waiehu, Maui, passed away on April 6, 2013 at his residence while surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on January 8, 1952 in Bangui, Ilocos Norte Philippines.
Services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Christ the King Church in Kahului, visitation from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm with a mass at 7:30 pm; visitation continues at Borthwick Norman's Mortuary in Wailuku on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm with a prayer service at 10:30 am. Burial at 12:30 pm at Valley Isle Memorial Park Cemetery in Haiku.
He is survived by his wife Angelita Manegdeg Soliven; his son, John (Nani) Soliven; his daughter, Cherry (Kekoa) Tom; his five sisters, Cynthia (Jose) Canlas, Nora (Guillermo) Durago, Shiela (Rodolfo "Sonny") Marilla; Cholita Soliven & Marilyn Soliven; three brothers, Ernesto Soliven, Jr., Valemar "Boyet" Soliven & Ryan (Lorytess) Soliven and six grandchildren, Ka'eo & Makoa Tom; Jona, Jayden, Jayna and Jaren Gerard-Soliven.
Gene was a retired bellman of 32 years at the Hyatt Regency, Maui. He enjoyed watching sports, cooking, traveling, and most of all spending time with his close friends and family. All who knew him will surely miss his smile, witty humor, cooking, and most of all, his selfless ways.
