Maui sweeps standup event at Ahu Dhabi
Maui swept the top three places in the Abu Dhabi All-Stars Invitational standup paddling event held over the weekend.
Zane Schweitzer won the overall title and was third in sprints. Kody Kerbox was second overall and fifth in sprints, while Connor Baxter was third overall and won the sprints.
Seabury, Maui Prep hold practice surf meet
With the 19th annual Maui Interscholastic Surf Championships coming up on April 20 at Hookipa Beach Park, the Seabury Hall and Maui Preparatory Academy surf teams held a practice meet on Saturday at Lahaina Harbor.
Seabury's Ridge Lenny swept the boys shortboard, longboard and bodyboard titles, while Isabella Pickering won both the girls shortboard and bodyboard crowns.
The Spartans swept the boys shortboard division with Gavin Selman, Adam Ferrier and Brandon Smith finishing 2-3-4 behind Lenny.
The schools will hold another practice meet on Sunday at D.T. Fleming's Beach Park in Kapalua.
Hawaii All-Star Cheer fundraising for trip
Hawaii All-Star Cheer is currently fundraising for a trip to The Summit competition in Orlando, Fla.
The competition, in its first year, includes the top 10 percent of teams nationwide.
Hawaii All-Star Cheer's Junior Level 2 and Senior Level 4 squads received two of 107 paid bids to the competition, but the $510 per athlete does not include airfare.
The team is hoping to take 36 members to Florida.
Hawaii received its invitation to The Summit after sweeping three meets in March.
Funds for the Orlando trip can be dropped off at the Hawaii All-Stars gym located at 180 Wakea Ave. in Kahului.

Basketball league to hold meeting April 24
There will be a mandatory meeting for the County of Maui annual summer basketball league on April 24 at War Memorial Gym at 6 p.m.

Helekahi-Cass signs with Ashford University
Hana's Pakalana Helekahi-Cass signed a national letter of intent on Thursday to play volleyball at Ashford University in Iowa.
Helekahi-Cass, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter/middle blocker, was the Maui News' Maui Interscholastic League Division II Player of the Year this past season.
Pakalana-Cass also is this year's valedictorian at Hana.
Central Maui Style wins wrestling meet
Central Maui Style won the Maui Style Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at War Memorial Gym. A record 441 wrestlers competed in the season opener.
Central and the Maui Razorbacks each won 24 of the weight classes while the Lahaina Roughnecks had 21 winners.
The next Maui Style tournament will be Saturday at War Memorial Gym.
