Yom Hashoah service planned for Sunday
Rabbi David Glickman will lead this weekend the Jewish Congregation of Maui's annual Yom Hashoah service, the Holocaust Memorial Day service remembering the millions of people murdered by the Nazis during World War II.
The service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Following the service, the film "Aristides de Sousa Mendes" will be shown. It is the story of the Portuguese consul general to Bordeaux, France, who in 1940 issued more than 38,000 emigration visas to Jews and others who would otherwise have been arrested by the Nazis.
A $10 donation toward the cost of the film would be welcomed.
The congregation's Beit Shalom Synagogue is at 634 Alulike St. in Kihei. For more information, call 874-5397.
