Governor observes anniversary of ’46 tsunami

April 3, 2013
The Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) - April is Tsunami Awareness Month, and Gov. Neil Abercrombie wants residents to know that Hawaii is prepared.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser said that Abercrombie was one of several speakers at a news conference Monday to observe the 67th anniversary of the April 1, 1946, tsunami that claimed 159 lives.

The state has been working with individual communities to help them gain the "TsunamiReady" designation from the National Weather Service.
