Gallerie Spontaneous, an artist collective, is accepting submissions for an exhibit at the Maui County Agricultural Festival on April 6.
Submissions are due Friday. For complete details and prospectus, visit the organization's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/GallerieSpontaneous?ref=ts&fref=ts.
Created by writer Bonnie Friedman and photographer Tony Novak-Clifford, Gallerie Spontaneous is a small, growing collective of artists and art enthusiasts with a goal of advocating for the arts and artists of Maui County, both emerging and established.
The collective was formed with the intention of mounting one-day, juried exhibitions at various locations around the island throughout the year.
"We are delighted to be making our debut at this year's Maui County Agricultural Festival. The theme for this show is 'Fertile Ground.' And we think the possibilities are endless. From photos of keiki in lo'i kalo to pastel floral still-lifes. We encourage Maui's artists to let their imaginations run wild," Friedman said.
Maui County Farm Bureau Executive Director Warren Watanabe added that: "Everyone knows agriculture provides food and fiber. But it also provides esthetics, beauty, resource management, heritage, and culture. These are values we believe Maui artists will be able to share through their works of art exhibited in Gallerie Spontaneous at this year's Ag Festival."
Presented by the Maui County Farm Bureau in partnership with the Office of Economic Development, the festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maui Tropical Plantation.
