Good news: The Department of Health included new rules for calling no-burn days in the 2013 Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar permit.
You may not even be aware that HC&S has been harvesting cane for the first week of the season without burning. Before, they would have burned and we'd be choking on smoke.
Stopcaneburning.org wants to thank all the folks who took the time to report smoke at ground level. If we continue to report, we can separate out the fields that routinely smoke us out for no-burn harvest and we'll all breathe easier.
I'm encouraged that the Department of Health has responded to our complaints with effective changes.
