100 Years Ago

1913 - On Monday last there was a fine excursion made over the new Haiku extension of the Kahului Railroad. About 20 people who happened to be in Kahului, both locals and visitors, were invited to inspect Maliko Gulch, the Maliko bridge and the fine new road.

75 Years Ago

1938 - New schedules for Inter-Island Airways planes on all routes have been announced. The new schedule gives Maui two planes a day from Oahu, and two departing for Oahu.

50 Years Ago

1963 - Maui Technical School's carpentry, sheet metal and drafting departments have consolidated to build a model home. The instructors involved are Bomani J. Kim, George Sano, and Ralph Lyon.

25 Years Ago

1988 - Take entertainer Buddy Fo and his country backup band, set them on a stage in a lush tropical setting, throw in a little square dancing, a healthy dose of country cooking and you've got the Maui Tropical Plantation's unbeatable Hawaiian country show. It is the most popular visitor attraction on Maui and third in the state.

10 Years Ago

2003 - A five-member Maui High team outpaced the competition, finishing with first place in the first Hawaii Regional Competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl held at the University of Hawaii. The top honor is the second in two months. In January, Maui High's Science Bowl Team took its second consecutive title in the Hawaii Science Bowl.
