'Intimacy with God' discussion Saturday

Ala Lani United Methodist Church is launching an ecumenical discussion group about believers' spiritually stirring issues.

Pianist to share testimonies, perform

Pianist Sam Rotman will share his Christian testimonies during a 6 p.m. Sunday service at the Wailuku Door of Faith Church.

The Juilliard-trained musician also will perform at the church, located at 432 Waiehu Beach Road.

Church hosting 'Chair-ish Maui'

Makawao Union Church is hosting a fundraiser called "Chair-ish Maui" until the end of March.

Contestants in the church's recycled art competition pay a $15 entry fee, which includes an old metal folding chair. It must be picked up at the church between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. any Sunday until March 24.

Decorated chairs are due between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. March 31 at the church. Finished chairs must fold and unfold and still function as a chair.

Judging will take place during the following week. The top 10 decorated chairs will be announced April 7, with the top three displayed at the annual Art of Trash. Prizes will be awarded to all winners.

Lenten retreat to be held Saturday

A "Lenten Retreat of Healing and Renewal" will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church by-the-Sea's parish hall and grounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The workshop's focus employs Jesus' teachings and the gifts of creation - water, fire, earth and air - as elements of healing and restoration. Lent refocuses believers on their relationship with God and its healing power.

The retreat is open to everyone. Donations will be accepted.

Lenten penance schedule released Maui's Roman Catholic Vicariate has released a schedule for Lenten penance services.

Scheduled services include:

* Christ the King Church, Kahului, 6 p.m. March 18.

* St. Anthony Church, Wailuku, 6 p.m. March 19.

* Maria Lanakila Church, Lahaina, 6:30 p.m. March 19.
