Sheraton flows with Makana cocktail

March 7, 2013
The Maui News

Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa at legendary Black Rock in Kaanapali is celebrating its golden anniversary with the Makana cocktail using 'Okolehao Liqueur from Haleakala Distillery upcountry and Old Lahaina Light Rum from Paia.

The Makana may be sipped at Sheraton's two pool lounges, Cliff Dive Bar and Mai Tai Bar, as well as at Link@Sheraton Bar, Black Rock Steak and Seafood, and Teppan-yaki Dan.

"Sheraton Maui has a rich history of legends and myths," says Director of Food and Beverage Brandon Maeda. "This cocktail embodies these legends in its use of native ingredients. Made from the root of the East Maui ti plant, 'Okolehao is one of Hawaii's oldest liqueurs. Once labeled as 'Hawaiian moonshine,' it was banned for a number of years."
