David Clifford Reed III, 75

David Clifford Reed III, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3rd at his home in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii. He was 75 years old.

Dave was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 19, 1937 and married Carol, the love of his life and wife of 53 years, on September 28, 1957. They moved to California in 1961 and spent most of their years in Anaheim before moving to Maui in 1995.

On Maui, Dave was Assistant Chief Maintenance Engineer at the Mana Kai, and later at the Grand Wailea Resort before retiring in 2010. He is remembered for his colorful and sometime off-color sense of humor, generosity and strong work ethic. He took great pride in his work at the resorts whether it was a monumental remodel or looking after his beautiful hibiscus and manicured lawns.

After retirement, Dave stayed home to care for his bride who preceded him in passing in March of 2011. He leaves behind a sister Marie Adams of Seattle, Washington; a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Spears of Rogue River, Oregon; two sons, David (Barbara) Reed IV of Chino Hills, California and Jeffery (Heather) Reed of Anaheim Hills, California; two granddaughters, Stefanie Spears and Haley Porter; one grandson, Jake Reed; two hanai daughters, Christina (Atunaisa) Laqeretabua of Pukalani, Maui, and Merriette (Paul) Carlson of Sacramento, California and two hanai granddaughters, Isabella and Bethany Laqeretabur.

A private and combined service and scattering of ashes will be held for both Dave and Carol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on his behalf to the American Cancer Society or the Maui Humane Society.
