Book sale to benefit libraries

Maui Friends of the Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in front of Whole Foods Market in Kahului.

An assortment of fiction, nonfiction and oversize books will be available at bargain prices.

Maui Friends of the Library provides funding for library programs, supplies and equipment for Maui County's public libraries.

'Maui Birth Options' title of presentation

A panel presentation for expectant parents will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Makawao Yoga.

Attendees will meet midwives, doulas, childbirth educators, lactation consultants and other childbirth professionals and learn about options for birthing families on Maui. The event is free. Makawao Yoga is located next to Casanova restaurant in Makawao.

Returned Peace Corps volunteers to meet

All returned Peace Corps volunteers are invited to a gathering at noon Feb. 27 at Saeng's Thai restaurant in Wailuku.

Returned volunteers will celebrate National Peace Corps Week and meet other volunteers who gave two years of service.

Club to pair wines with desserts

The Italian American Social Club in Kihei will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in St. Theresa's Church Hall.

The evening will begin with a potluck supper.

The club will welcome Ali Biglar from the Hawaii Liquor Store in Kahului as guest speaker. Biglar will pair different Italian dessert wines with club members' favorite chocolate desserts. He will speak about each wine and its origin.

The cost for the wine tasting is $10. All are invited to attend.

Author will speak at Rotary meeting

Author Danielle Marie Bergan will speak to the Rotary Club of Maui at noon Thursday concerning her memoir, "It's Always Okay To Be Me: A Journey to Recovering Lost Hope," the story of a transsexual woman.

The meeting will be at the Class Act Restaurant on the University of Hawaii Maui College campus. The cost is $20. The public is welcome.

School announces annual spring concert

The Baldwin High School Music Department (jazz band, wind ensemble and concert band) will perform its 67th annual Spring Concert at 7 p.m. March 12 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Admission is free.

St. Joseph Feast set for May 3-5

St. Joseph Church and Early Learning Center have announced the dates for their annual St. Joseph Feast - May 3 to 5.

The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. May 3; from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 4; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5.

The feast will include food such as malassadas, Portuguese soup, waffle dogs, chow fun, nachos, BBQ teriyaki and hamburgers.

On May 3 and 4 there will be a live auction featuring gift certificates to restaurants, hotels and activities donated by businesses throughout the state.

Activities and attractions will include games, bouncers, crafters, a country store, plants, produce and flowers.

St. Joseph Church is located at 1294 Makawao Ave.

The organizing committee is accepting donations, crafters and entertainment. For more information, contact Donna Pico at 572-7652.

Manager to discuss resort upgrades

Rick Tanner, general manager of the Whaler on Kaanapali Beach, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina lunch meeting at noon Thursday.

Tanner has managed the 360-room resort since 2008, and in that 4 1/2-year period the property has invested more than $50 million in upgrades and renovations.

The club meets at the Royal Ocean Terrace restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort. Lunch can be purchased from the menu.

AARP announces monthly meeting

The South Maui Chapter of AARP will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. March 11 in the Garden Room of Kalama Heights, located at 101 Kanani Road in Kihei.

The guest speaker will be Chris Pacheco, a family service counselor with Maui Memorial Park.
