MIL champs each receive No. 3 seeds

February 18, 2013
The Maui News

Both of this season's Maui Interscholastic League boys basketball champions received No. 3 seeds in the Hawaiian Airlines State Championships brackets announced Sunday.

King Kekaulike, which went 14-0 in league play, received a bye to the Division I quarterfinals, and will play its first tournament game on Thursday at the Moanalua gym against the winner of Wednesday's meeting between defending champion Punahou and Farrington.

Seabury Hall, which went 13-1 en route to a fourth straight MIL title, will face University in the quarterfinals of the eight-team Division II tournament. The Spartans finished fourth in last year's state tournament.

Baldwin (10-4), the MIL's D-I runner-up this season, will play Kapolei on Wednesday at McKinley for the right to face top-seeded Maryknoll in the quarterfinal round. The Bears placed third in the state last year.

Kalaheo, the defending D-II champion, is seeded second in D-I this year. Konawaena received the No. 4 seed.

St. Francis is the No. 1 seed this year in D-II, Kailua is the No. 2 and Hawaii Prep is seeded fourth.
