Catholic community lacks the leadership needed

February 17, 2013
The Maui News

As a Catholic, I am told that there are 64 million of us in the United States.

It seems to me that we have the lobbying power to change laws and make new ones to insure that the "good" always triumph: We could elect Catholic candidates who would promote the Gospel values; we could stop the abortion of our innocent children; we could protect the sanctity of marriage; immigrants to our nation would begin to feel welcomed and loved; we could even have our Catholic schools return to educate our children.

But definitely these things will never happen, at least they will never happen due to any effort from the Catholic community, because we do not all agree on what is good and evil. And besides, we lack the leadership of sincere and brave people, ready to step forward and gather the rest of us.
