The University of Hawaii baseball team was held to five hits in a 3-0 loss to Oregon on Friday at Murakami Stadium in Honolulu in the first game of the season for both teams.
The Ducks' Jake Reed (1-0) struck out seven batters in six innings, and Christian Jones allowed one hit while getting the final nine outs for a save.
Oregon, ranked sixth in the USA Today coaches poll, scored the first run of the game when Scott Squier walked J.J. Altobelli with the bases loaded. Brett Thomas had an RBI single in the fifth, and Aaron Payne's bunt single drove in a run in the seventh.
Adam Hurley was 2-for-3 for the Rainbows. Squier (0-1) permitted two runs in 4 2/3 innings.
The teams will continue their four-game series today.
