A 20-year-old Pukalani man was arrested after he threw a hammer into a vehicle, breaking a side window while a boy was inside, during an early-morning disturbance in a Makawao neighborhood, police said.
Bail was set at $5,000 for Stetsen Cravalho, who was charged with first-degree criminal property damage.
Police responded after numerous calls about a man standing in the road on Ulana Street and challenging someone to a fight at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, according to acting Lt. Richard Rodriguez of the Criminal Investigation Division.
The man, identified as Cravalho, had left before officers arrived.
Rodriguez said an investigation showed Cravalho had made prior attempts to contact a 19-year-old woman living at the residence on Ulana Street, although she had told him she wasn't interested and had a boyfriend.
Cravalho reportedly had damaged the woman's vehicle, breaking taillights during earlier incidents, police said.
During the incident Monday, he smashed windows and headlights on the woman's vehicle, Rodriguez said. He said Cravalho also grabbed a hammer and threw it at her friend's vehicle, with the hammer breaking through a window while the friend's stepson was inside. The boy wasn't injured.
Damage was estimated at $900 to the woman's vehicle and $150 to her friend's vehicle.
Cravalho was arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to police records.
