As a longtime resident of Maui, I read the Feb. 10 Maui News article about the privatization of our public hospitals with interest.
I am by no means an expert in this field, and I will be the first to say that I do not know or understand what it takes for a hospital to go private. But what jumped out at me as I read the article was that the union and its employees are more interested in keeping their jobs and benefits than providing the people of Maui with the best possible health care solution.
Please explain to me why someone who is a dedicated, qualified and loyal health care professional would be concerned about not being rehired by Banner Health or any other company.
I only hope that the lawmakers and those trusted with making the final decision will come up with a solution that provides the people of Maui with the best quality health care for many years to come.
