100 Years Ago
1913 - Konohi, or the old-fashioned Chinese New Year, was celebrated with all the old vim last Tuesday night and for several days following. All the Chinese business houses closed down for a couple of days. The usual dinners, presents and good time were had by everyone who visited the Chinese section of town.

1938 - Make a date! Enjoy a memorable evening at the Heart Dance. There will be unusual decorations, soft and sweet music and surprises galore. Music will be supplied by Maui's foremost orchestra, the Larry Enos Orchestra.

1963 - Ground was broken over the weekend by the Honokowai Development Co. Inc. to start a rental housing project. The units are being built to take care of the many new families that will be moving into the area as more hotel chains begin to locate in Kaanapali.

1988 - The topic before the County Council's Human Service Committee was where to hold County Fairs of years to come, but what seemed to be at stake was the 1988 fair. The fair might or might not happen.

2003 - The first wave of Korean immigrants arrived in Hawaii between 1903 and 1905 when 7,843 laborers arrived by boat to work on the islands' sugar plantations. This year Koreans will celebrate their centennial.
