Church to focus on global warming

Makawao Union Church will take part in the National Preach-In on Global Warming during its 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

Organized by Interfaith Power and Light, the event spans 37 states and calls for a faith response to climate change. Makawao Union Church is one of two congregations participating in Hawaii. The other is Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu.

Kihei Baptist Chapel has slate of events

Kihei Baptist Chapel will host several events in the coming weeks.

Those include:

* An "Arrows Out Conference" with David Browning, the founding pastor of Christ the King Church International and best-selling author of "Deliberate Simplicity" and "Hybrid Church," will be held with sessions from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 16 and at 10 a.m. Feb. 17.

* Stephen Meyer of the Discovery Institute will speak at 10 a.m. Feb. 24.

* Worship Catalyst Conference leaders Austin and Cami Ryan will train worship leaders and teams, bands and technicians from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16.

Kihei Baptist Chapel is located at 1655 S. Kihei Road at the corner of Welakahao Street.

Ceremony to renew marriage vows

The Rev. Bill Albinger of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church will perform a public renewal of marriage vows on Valentine's Day on Thursday.

The ceremony will be held on the oceanfront lawn behind the church at 5:30 p.m. Couples of all faiths married in a religious or civil ceremony or in a civil union are welcome to attend. Each couple will be presented with a marriage vow renewal certificate. The event will include music and prayers and conclude with cake.

Couples are encouraged to invite family, friends and neighbors to attend this event that celebrates the gifts of love and commitment, the news release said.

The free event is at the church, located at 561 Front St. in Lahaina.
