Respect owed to dogs wearing vest, their owners

February 6, 2013
The Maui News

Please respect owners with dogs wearing a vest.

The tourist in Kapalua who insisted my dog (a chocolate lab) would bite her, evidentially did not notice the blue vest with a service/therapy dog patch that my dog was wearing. Therapy/service dogs have to go through training and show that they are dedicated to their person, will not bite, growl or attack.

Most therapy dogs have been awarded the Good Citizen Award, which means he/she is courteous in public and can be around people and other dogs without any problems.

Next time be more courteous and respect both of us. There was plenty of grassy area for the woman to walk way around us if she has a fear of dogs.
