Steven Irvin had 27 kills and Brian Cook added 20 as Stanford outlasted the Hawaii University of Hawaii men's volleyball team 25-23, 22-25, 33-31, 20-25, 15-9 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday at the Stan Sheriff?Center in Honolulu.
James Shaw had 53 assists for the Cardinal, ranked No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. It was the first road victory of the season for Stanford (7-2, 4-2).
Sinisa Zarkovic had 16 kills, JP?Marks had 13 kills and Brooke Sedore had 12 kills and five aces for the Warriors.
Taylor Averill had 12 kills with a .476 hitting percentage and seven blocks, and Joby Ramos had 52 assists and 17 digs for Hawaii (3-7, 2-5).
The Warriors, who were coming off a pair of victories over then-No. 2 Pepperdine last week, are 3-3 in five-set matches this season.
Stanford hit .287 for the match, while UH hit just .218.
Iolani alumnus Scott Sakaida had three digs and one assist for the Cardinal.
The teams will play against today.
