The Kamehameha Schools Maui girls soccer team defeated Kahuku 4-3 in a penalty-kick shootout Friday after a scoreless draw through two overtimes, earning a berth in today's Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Division I State Championship fifth-place game at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
Kamehameha (13-3-0), the No. 3 seed, got goals from Lily Higashino, Julia Saffery, Tynell Ornellas and Taira Lucas in the shootout. Janice Pouha, Napua Amua-Yamamoto and Carrie Kamakaala scored for the Red Raiders (9-5-3).
The Warriors will play today against No. 4 Konawaena, which beat Moanalua 2-0 on Friday.
The Maui Interscholastic League has had a team finish fifth or better in the previous four D-I tournaments.
King Kekaulike and Kealakehe qualified for today's seventh-place match with wins in the consolation round on Thursday.
