The Maui News

One of the outstanding annual events in Maui County is the presentation of the Mayor's Small Business Awards.

A partnership between the county's Office of Economic Development and the Maui Chamber of Commerce, the awards honor entrepreneurs who run successful small businesses here. This year's winners will be presented at a dinner at the King Kamehameha Golf Club on Feb. 21.

The public is invited to nominate their choices for the awards in six categories:

Exceptional Small Business of the Year (10 or fewer employees); Exceptional Small Business of the Year (11 to 25 employees); Exceptional Small Business of the Year (26 to 50 employees); Outstanding Non-Profit Business (50 or fewer employees); Young Small Business Person of the Year (under age 40 as of Feb. 21); and Lifetime Achievement Award for any individual doing business in Maui County for more than 20 years.

A story in Wednesday's Maui News said nomination forms may be picked up at the Maui County Business Resource Center at the Maui Mall, at the Maui Chamber of Commerce, and at branches of American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawaii, Central Pacific Bank and First Hawaiian Bank. They may also be obtained at www.mauicounty.gov/oed.

All nominations must be received at the Maui County Business Resource Center in the Maui Mall by noon Feb. 11.

Contact the Maui County Business Resource Center at 873-8247 for information on the required documentation needed for each nomination.
