Church plans rummage sale Saturday
Christ the King Church will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 20 W. Wakea Ave. in Kahului.
The rummage is for the 2013 Charity Walk, according to an announcement.

Big Island author and writing teacher Tom Peek will read and sign copies of his book, “Daughters of Fire” during two of his three planned appearances Friday through Sunday. The book is the second work of fiction from Maui-based publisher Koa Books.
Food items on sale will include kim chee, pickles, baked goods, Filipino desserts and chow fun.
Potted plants and flowers will also be available.

Maui News staffer to speak at meeting
Leah Sherman, a copy editor of The Maui News, will be speaking to the Kihei Italian Club at 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa Church hall.
The evening will begin with a potluck supper. Donald Tedesco, president of the club, has planned a cooperative activity for club members in which they work in groups to come up with their five most important news stories of 2012.
Sherman will compose her own list and during her discussion will reveal her top five stories. The club members will see how their lists match with hers.
All are invited to join this interactive first meeting of the new year.

Making dreams happen to be topic of talk
Annette Lynch, an author, Olympian and performance coach, will be the guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Maui meeting at noon Thursday at Carey and Eddie's Hideaway restaurant in Kahului.
Her topic will be "The Winner's Edge - How to Make Dreams Happen."
The meeting is open to the public, and visitors are welcome. Lunch is $12.

Hawaii author to read from his new novel
Big Island author and writing teacher Tom Peek will make appearances on Maui on Friday through Sunday.
He will read and sign copies of his book, "Daughters of Fire," at 7 p.m. Friday at Baldwin House Museum in Lahaina.
From 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Peek will be on a panel called "Seven Hawaiian Voices," at the Aloha Writers Conference at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. He will join authors Patricia Lei Murray, William Fernandez, Puakea Nogelmeier, Wayne Moniz, Keanu Sai, Kaui Sai-Dudoit, Katherine Smith and Sydney Laukea.
At 1 p.m. Sunday, he will sign books at the Friends of the Library store at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center.
All gatherings are free and open to the public.
