Rain welcome sight in South Maui

January 16, 2013
The Maui News
Part-time Maui resident Steve Lewis of Kentucky rides past a puddle near the South Kihei Road entrance to Kamaole III Beach Park on Tuesday morning. Lewis said he was happy to see some rain in South Maui. “It was great to see it,” he said. “I’ve never seen it so dry. We’ve been hoping for rain since we got here.” A rain gauge in Kihei captured nearly a half inch in the 24-hour period ending 2 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service forecasts party cloudy skies with isolated windward and mountain showers through Thursday. Leeward areas will be mostly clear. Winds will be from the north about 10 mph. The high temperatures will be from 75 to 80 degrees, and the lows 59 to 65 degrees.
