"Diet to Improve your Child's Learning and Health" will be the topic of a free presentation by Steve Blake from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the new performing arts building at Seabury Hall in Makawao.
The presentation is being coordinated by the Parents Under Construction committee of the Seabury Hall Parents Organization.
Participants will learn which foods keep students sharp in the classroom by continuously refueling their brains, according to an announcement. Topics include foods to avoid and to encourage for fewer colds and flu; the broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals necessary to support learning; and which food contaminants, such as mercury, can degrade learning.
The presentation will explore which types of food contribute to or decrease teen obesity.
Presenter Steve Blake earned a doctorate in holistic health, specializing in nutritional biochemistry. He is the author of the 2008 McGraw-Hill college textbook "Vitamins and Minerals Demystified," and "A Nutritional Approach to Alzheimer's Disease."
He was director of the Maui Holistic Health Center for seven years.
