'Hard Naks' camps to begin Saturday
The "Hard Naks" youth speed camps are scheduled for Saturdays at the Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapu, beginning this week and running though Nov. 16.
Classes are set for 8-9 a.m. for elementary-school students, 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. for intermediate-school students and 10:30 a.m. to noon for students in high school. The fee is $10 per class, and must be paid with cash or by credit card.

Run and Walk for the Whales next month
The Pacific Whale Foundation's Run and Walk for the Whales is scheduled for Feb. 2. The event will have runs and walks at three distances - half-marathon as well as 10 and 5 kilometers - and a 2K youth run. The courses for all distances begin and end at Makena Beach & Golf Resort.
Registration can be completed online at flpregister.com/21 until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 30. The fees for foundation members are $40 for the half marathon, $35 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K and $20 for the 2K. The fees for nonmembers are $5 more. Race-day registration will cost an additional $5. The event will benefit marine education programs provided to Maui schoolchildren.
The entry fee also pays for a shirt, postrace breakfast and eligibility for prizes.
The start times are 6:30 a.m. for the half-marathon and 10K, 7:30 a.m. for the 5K and 8 a.m. for the keiki race. Free race-day parking will be available at the Wailea events lot, located at the corner of Wailea Ike and Kalai Waa streets. Free shuttle buses will begin running at 5 a.m.
Race packets will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the foundation's store at the Maalaea Harbor Shops. Check-in on race day will begins at 5:30 a.m. at the resort.

Kiyabu records ace at Waiehu's second hole
Steve Kiyabu of Wailuku recorded a hole-in-one at Wai-ehu Municipal Golf Course on Friday.
Kiyabu aced the second hole, using a 7-iron for the 139-yard shot, which was witnessed by Garrett Tokuoka.
