MARCH 3-King Kekaulike High School's Austin Bloch scores a takedown of Kamehameha Kapalama's Tyson Kua-hine with two seconds left to win 6-4 in the 140-pound state wrestling final at the Neal Blaisdell Center. Four other wrestlers from the Maui Interscholastic League place second.
MARCH 10-Three records are broken in the 87th annual Kiwanis Club of Maui/County of Maui Track and Field Meet at Yamamoto Track & Field Facility. Nawai Kaupe of Iao School sets the mark in the girls 7th-grade softball throw with a distance of 220 feet, 3 inches, and Selai Damuni breaks the girls 7th-grade 200-meter dash record, finishing in 26.83 seconds. Quinn Williams of Kamehameha Maui long jumps 15-01?2, setting the girls 8th-grade mark. Team Primo wins the Olamau Unlimited six-man canoe race - the three-day event sent teams from Maliko Bay to Fleming Beach, from Fleming Beach to Kaunakakai Wharf and from Papohako Beach to Waikiki. Team Primo's time was 10 hours, 34 minutes, 51 seconds.
MARCH 18-Excel Soccer Club produces three championship teams at the Spring Break Soccer Bash at Keopuolani Park. Excel 94 defeats the Mount Boucherie (British Columbia) Bears 2-1 in the girls 19 final, Excel 2000 is a 1-0 winner over the Wailuku Bruisers 2000 in the boys under-12 final and Excel 2003 Yellow wins 7-1 over Excel 2003 White in the boys under-9 final. Pono 99 defeats the Kaoi 98 Strikers 2-1 in overtime for the girls-14 title, and Pono 2003 defeats Excel 2003 5-0 in the girls under-9 final. Maui Girls Plumeria 2002 takes the girls under-10 title with a 2-0 victory over Pono 2002, and Rush Zoom is a 3-0 winner over the Maui Cobras in the girls under-8 final. Hawaii All Star Cheer wins the senior level 4 and level 4 choreography titles at the United Spirit Association's national championship in Anaheim, Calif., and takes second place in senior level 3.

MARCH 20-Kawika Keator, the only soccer coach to guide an MIL team to a state championship, announces his retirement. Keator led the Bears to a pair of girls state championships, three state finals and nine MIL titles in 13 seasons. The PGA Tour announces that Kapalua's event will likely remain in January, but will no longer be the season opener, starting with the 2014 tournament. "I would anticipate we start the schedule early October, and we will run well into November. We will probably be dark from just before or at Thanksgiving through the rest of the year, probably a six-week break, something like that. Then we'll be back in Hawaii at Hyundai," says tour commissioner Tim Finchem.
MARCH 23-The University of Hawaii women's volleyball team is swept 25-23, 25-16, 25-15 by Nebraska in an exhibition match at War Memorial Gym. The teams opt to play a fourth set as well, which the Cornhuskers win 25-16.
MARCH 24-Kiffmann Taekwondo wins 50 medals, 36 of them gold, and Maui Taekwondo earns 40 medals, with 12 golds, in the USA Taekwondo state championships at Waipahu High School. Three of the black-belt competitors from Maui win two golds - Kathryn Kiffmann and Justin Koja of Kiffmann Taekwondo, and Edwin Estabillo of Maui Taekwondo.
MARCH 25-The Cincinnati Reds assign relief pitcher Kanekoa Texeira of Kula to their minor league camp. Texeira had a 9.64 ERA in seven spring-training games, permitting runs in all but two of his outings.
MARCH 27-Daniela Holmqvist of the University of California wins the inaugural Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Kapalua Bay Course, closing with a 4-over-par 76 for a three-round total of 2-under 214, four shots better than Pepperdine's Alina Ching. Tennessee claims the team title.
MARCH 29-The Lahainaluna water polo team's MIL winning streak is halted at 52 matches when Baldwin beats the Lunas 9-8 at Kihei Aquatic Center. The streak, which began in 2006, is the third-longest in league history for any sport.
MARCH 30-The Baldwin girls golf team finishes a fourth straight perfect MIL season, defeating Maui High 122-161 at Kahili Golf Course. The Bears finish the year 8-0, extending their league winning streak to 41 matches.
