I strongly disagree with the governor's choice of Brian Schatz as the new senator from Hawaii (The Maui News, Dec. 27).
This is just wrong, wrong, wrong. The majority of the permanent population of Hawaii comes from many backgrounds - Hawaiian, Japanese, Filipino, Micronesian and, the largest group, hapa. (For the record. I'm Irish/Dutch.)
I am offended by this completely tone-deaf selection, and think Hawaii would have been much better served by a candidate who represented the majority of the people in the state.
It's just bad politics and disrespectful to the majority of the voters.
