The National Rifle Association's idea of an armed guard at every school (The Maui News, Dec. 22) is pure stupidity. In many cases, the first person shot and killed is the armed guard.
Take the killings at a Texas Army base; Columbine had an armed deputy on duty and Virginia Tech had an armed guard on duty, just to site a few.
The Violence Policy Center said that the NRA plan has been tried and doesn't work.
All the following countries watch the same movies, TV shows and play the same video games as us (gun death per 100,000 population): U.S., 3.98; Italy, 0.81; Canada, 0.50; Australia, 0.24; England, 0.15; and Japan, 0.02.
Can we all now agree that guns do kill people?
