Support for post office needs to work both ways

December 24, 2012
The Maui News

Dec. 17 is the busiest mailing day of the whole year. So at 6 a.m., I left my warm cozy bed, put on my best "going out" pajamas and loaded my truck with all my Christmas boxes (flat rate, of course) for the Mainland - 10, to be exact.

But I'm smart and planned to use the automated shipping kiosk. When I got to the Kihei post office, I touched the screen as directed but my only option was to buy stamps without a receipt. So, let me see, this must mean the machine was out of paper for receipts and shipping postage printouts. Really? How much time would it have taken before closing on Saturday to check.

I try to always support the post office. I never send electronic greeting cards, I use flat rate boxes all year, and I neither bank online nor pay bills online. Help me here, guys. I'm doing my part to keep you going but remember, God helps those who help themselves.
