Advance Your Dance Maui's professional dance instructors/owners, Sandy and Frank Hook, recently hosted Tristan MacManus, a top professional ballroom and Latin dancer, choreographer, teacher, artist and pro from ABC's hit TV show "Dancing With the Stars."
MacManus was on Maui to treat a local dancer to a free dance lesson and approached the Hooks to teach for their dance ohana. In addition to offering several private dance lessons, MacManus taught a two-hour group lesson in Omori Dance Studio A at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in early December.
In addition to operating Advance Your Dance Maui, the Hooks volunteer with the Central Maui Chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association and are one of the four couples who teach for the nonprofit organization on Monday evenings at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku.
Advance Your Dance Maui has raised money over the past seven years for local organizations and individuals. It has DJ'd community charity events, and several times a year it donates items to the Maui Food Bank. Last year, Advance Your Dance Maui donated 3,227 pounds of food.
Advance Your Dance Maui's Dec. 22 MACC dance will be another benefit for the Maui Food Bank. Proceeds will be used to purchase the most-needed proteins for Maui families in need.
