Jan. 12-The second annual Kurt Suzuki Youth Baseball Clinic is scheduled for Jan. 12 at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku. Instruction will be offered by Suzuki, a Baldwin High School graduate who has spent six seasons as a major league catcher and is now with the Washington Nationals, as well as from high school coaches and members of All Pono. The free event is limited to 225 participants. Instruction is scheduled for 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for youths ages 8-12, and 1:30-4 p.m. for youths 13-18. Jan. 5-The Ko'ie'ie Fishpond 5K Fun Run and Kids Mile are scheduled for 8 a.m. on Jan. 5 at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in Kihei. Proceeds will benefit the fishpond. The registration fee for the 5K is $25 for adults and $20 for youths. The registration fee for the mile, for youths 12 and under, is $15. Jan. 5-The Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 5 at Whalers Village in Kaanapali. Registration can be completed at hyundairun4hope.org. The entry fee is $10 for youths 12 and under, and $35 for all others. The fee will also pay for a T-shirt, food and refreshments after the race and a finisher's medal. Proceeds will benefit cancer patients at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.
