It is with a heavy heart that I learned of Uncle Eddie Pu passing (The Maui News, Dec. 8).
I first met Uncle Eddie in 2001 as a tour guide, and I can honestly say he touched my life like he did so many others. I would stop in the middle of the road on tour and introduce him to my guests riding with me on tour, or happen to see him watching the ocean and pull over with my van and people and chat. And he always had that smile.
I sat with him once on the grass near Hamoa at a wedding, watching hundreds of iiva birds circle above us and asked him if was a good sign. With his soft voice, he told me something I'll never forget but that I'm afraid it is between me and him.
All of Maui will miss that man, especially the people Hana. And I, boy what wisdom. Aloha, Uncle Eddie.
