This year's theme, "Ka Ho'oilina Leo, a Ho'opi'i Brothers," featured artwork inspired by the events, stories and places the Ho'opi'i Brothers sing about. Students in grades 912 submitted two-and-three dimensional artwork. Judging took place at the Department of Education's Maui District Office in Wailuku. This year's judges were Steve Brinkman, Bonnie Friedman and Todd Campbell.
"Bio's piece is a tribute to her instructor, Janet Sato," said Friedman. "Janet is an incredible resource for students who want to pursue art. Bio's winning piece shows true skill in two mediums: water color and pen and ink."
"Thank you to Na Mele O Maui for its support of the visual arts through this wonderful cultural venue over the years," said Sato. "I especially love the Ho'opi'is and their musical legacy, so it was my pleasure to introduce them to students who have not been fortunate enough to know of their contributions not just as musicians but as true representatives of our community and life."
