Getting through at Pipeline

December 9, 2012
The Maui News
Billy Kemper rides through a tube on the way to winning his first-round heat Saturday in the Billabong Pipe Masters at Oahu’s Banzai Pipeline. Kemper had a score of 11.00 to defeat Association of Surfing Professionals world tour member Taylor Knox by 0.83 points and advance to a meeting with Michel Bourez, another ASP tour surfer. The other Mauians in the field — Lahaina’s Dusty Payne, Haiku’s Tanner Hendrickson and Napili’s Granger Larsen — were eliminated.
