Voting habits prevent positive change in Hawaii

December 6, 2012
The Maui News

One definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. For the voting process in Hawaii, things have been done a certain way that has not worked. It is called vote for as many Democrats as you can regardless of their qualifications.

It has been that way for decades and Hawaii is among the poorest states in the nation. The sad part is that there are lots of letters in the newspapers complaining about the government officials. Yet the voters continue to vote again for the same people they complain about.

This past election was no exception as the Democrats pretty much cleaned house over some really good Republican candidates. The one who stood out was George Fontaine, who is an amazing man and way more qualified than a 23-year-old.

People say, "No vote, no grumble." I say no grumble if you continue follow the same voting habits. Expect no positive change from the results of this election.

Hopefully, one day the voting public will wise up and look beyond the D's and R's and vote based on who will get the job done. Until then, Hawaii will remain among the poorest states.
