Maui Taiko performed at the King Kekaulike Matsuri on Nov. 17 on the high school campus in Pukalani.

The event, coordinated by senior Anna Gragas, drew about 500 people and worked to share the Japanese culture with the community.

Activities included entertainment, martial arts demonstrations, 20 food booths, crafts and games. Maui Taiko, Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko, Matsu Dai Ryu Dance Academy, KKHS Band, KKHS Dance Force, Koto, Sanshin, Kisa Uradomo on violin and Dillon Koga on fue were part of the entertainment.

The KKHS Japanese 4 class also learned the Japanese folk song "Soran Bushi" and performed it at the end of the night.

Martial arts demonstrations covered judo, aikido and iaido. There were crafts for kids, such as hachimaki decorating, crane making and calligraphy.
