Kihei firefighters look over the scene of a brush fire that burned about 12 acres below Kula and above Kihei on Tuesday, according to a fire official. The fire was ignited by an adjacent sugar cane fire. Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. employees did most of the firefighting, helped by Kihei firefighters and the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter, which made water drops over the fire. The blaze was reported at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
