MECO customers spend part of holiday without electricity

Maui Electric Co. said customers in Lahaina, Olowalu and Launiupoko were without power beginning around 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

As of early Thursday evening, no updates were given about the outage.

MECO said in a release at 3:22 p.m. Thursday that it was working to identify the cause and restore electrical service as quickly and safely as possible.

In Lahaina, the areas affected were bounded by Mill, Prison, Front and Shaw streets, along with Aholo Road. Puamana, Puunoa and Makila Ridge subdivisions were also affected.
