The Maui News

Mitch Mitchell, Hale Makua Health Services board director, was honored by The Association of Fundraising Professionals Aloha Chapter in recognition of his long-term philanthropic achievements that have significantly impacted Hawaii.

The award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser was based upon a culmination of Mitchell's continued efforts in helping Hale Makua Health Services to achieve fundraising goals, his leadership role both on Hale Makua's board of directors and in spearheading fundraising events, and his success in motivating others to make contributions of time, money and talent.

Tony Krieg, CEO of Hale Makua Health Services, said "Mitch has a big heart filled with generosity, a love of Maui's community and a genuine desire to make it a better place.

"He is always eager, and often the first, to lend a helping hand, make a contribution, and advocate for the organization. He has used his many relationships to help tell our story and share the good work that we do."

Mitchell started as a member of Hale Makua Health Services' special events committee, then joined the Hale Makua Foundation board of directors in 2000, and is currently serving as chairman of the board's development & community relations committee.

He continues to be a member of the special events committee, where he has been instrumental in planning and implementing special events benefiting Hale Makua Health Services for almost two decades.

He has co-hosted the organization's red carpet gala and emceed its signature fundraiser, volunteered for several shifts at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions golf tournament.

He has also been the Visitor Industry Charity Walk's Top Individual Fundraiser on Maui several years running.
