Illinois assistant coach Jamall Walker and wife Rebekah welcomed their first son, Braylon Evan Walker, to the family on Wednesday. Braylon is the Walkers' second child, joining daughter JaShawn.

Jamall Walker is in his eighth college basketball position since 2003. His previous stops have been at Redlands Community College, Ball State, Saint Louis, Ball State, Murray State, Ohio (twice), and Arizona.

Montross on the air

North Carolina has the tallest radio analyst on Maui: 7-foot Eric Montross of the Tar Heel Radio Network.

Montross, who played for North Carolina from 1990 to 1994, was drafted No. 9 overall by the Boston Celtics, and spent time with six teams in an eight-year NBA career.

Butler is the only team that has its cheerleaders at this year's tournament. The Bulldogs have a squad of four women, two men and mascot "Hink" performing in Lahaina. Ben Crenshaw, a two-time Masters champion and the co-designer of the Kapalua Plantation Course, has been courtside for both of Texas' games. Crenshaw won three straight NCAA individual titles, from 1971 to 1973, while playing for the Longhorns. Six teams in the field wear Nike shoes - Butler, Illinois, Texas and USC, along with North Carolina and Marquette, which have Jordan Brand sneakers. Mississippi State and Chaminade wear Adidas.
