Maui sculptor earns top spot at international competition

Maui resident Darren Ho (pictured) took top honors and a $1,000 cash prize at the annual International Ice Sculpting Competition on Nov. 11 at Lahaina Cannery Mall, besting a field of carvers from Hawaii and Japan. Yuta Takahashi of Japan earned runner-up honors and $500. Osamu Yasuda of Japan won the Carver’s Choice award, as chosen by his fellow artists.
