Chris Hart (The Maui News, Nov. 13) was a benefactor, visionary, leader and my dear friend.
I had the honor to serve in his quixotic campaign for mayor. He ran because he wanted to be sure that the General Plan would be adopted as it was submitted by the hundreds of community people who put in thousands of hours to create it.
When he lost, he wasn't bitter. He recognized that whoever was going to be the mayor would need to endorse and approve the General Plan, and he worked tirelessly and harmoniously with Gladys Baisa, the committee chairwoman for the plan.
It's too bad he did not live to see it enacted. But it will be ratified, and we have Chris Hart to thank for the next two decades of a better Maui.
I will miss this dear man and friend. Rest in peace, Chris.
